Ronald Whitby Cayless.

Ronald Whitby Cayless lives in Roskeen Court, Wimbledon. He is presently serving a sentence which many consider much too lenient. His victims, many of whom were sadistically tortured and sexually assaulted at St. Mary's Bay in Kent, consider the 15 month sentence an insult. One victim has described how he was dragged out of a school journey dorm at night in no more than underpants and assaulted on the grass of the playing field, then viciously slippered by Cayless who was then a Deputy Headmaster of a school in Chelsea.

The assault lasted long enough for the other boys in the dorm to fear the same fate.

Paedophile jailed after admitting assaulting young boy in Northamptonshire in 1980s

Northampton Crown Court

An 84-year-old man has been jailed after he admitted sexually assaulting a young boy.Northampton Crown Court heard that Ronald Cayless indecently assaulted the boy in the 1980s in Northamptonshire. The court heard that Cayless told his victim not to tell anyone and “keep it as their secret.”Dominic Woolard, prosecuting, said Cayless was arrested after the victim contacted police last year.
Cayless pleaded guilty to assaulting a boy aged under 16 year old.
Mr Woolard read a victim impact statement to the court which revealed he had suffered severe psychological problems as a result and felt like his childhood had been “stolen” by Cayless.
Judge Michael Fowler sentenced Cayless, of Arteberry Road, London, to 15 months in prison. He is likely to serve half before being considered for parole.
Paedophile haunts and grooms boys in Choirs............
WELCOME TO OUR NEW ORGANIST RONALD CAYLESS Ron is no stranger to Christ Church; indeed he has been a very good friend for the past two years and more. He has been playing for Evensong on the 4th Sunday of the month for the past two years, and has also helped out with funerals and weddings. Ron has been involved in church music all his life. He sang in church choirs as a boy and has either sung or played the organ in church ever since. By profession he is a teacher and ended his long career as a Head Teacher, first of Holy Trinity CE Junior, Middle and Infants’ School in Hampstead from 1974-1980, and then of St Peter’s, Eaton Square from 1980-1992. He has been Organist and Choir Master of Holy Trinity Church, Sloane Street, and of St Michael’s, Chiswick. Whilst he was a Head Teacher Ron took a break from being an Organist and went back to singing in the Choir of the Royal Hospital in Chelsea. After retirement he went back to the organ and became Organist of St Mark’s, Whiteley Village which he will be leaving at Christmas after nearly 10 years. Ron lives very locally and he will start as our Organist and Director of Music on 12 January 2003. In the meantime, he will be playing for our Carol Service on 22 December. We very much look forward to welcoming him to Christ Church.

Inside the Mind of a Pedophile

By Michael Cochran & Meghan Cole

Most people imagine pedophiles as ugly old men dressed in trench coats, hiding in the bushes, waiting to snatch young children off the street. However, recent television shows, such asTo Catch a Predator, have exposed pedophiles as local neighbors, trusted friends, clergy, babysitters, teachers, and even family members.
Conceptions about pedophiles have been changing rapidly, and pedophilia has recently become a topic of increased awareness and concern. Not only do television shows expose pedophiles, but there are new sexual offender disclosure laws, websites that track convicted sexual offenders, and more investigations of pedophilia, especially after the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. Yet children still remain vulnerable to sexual offenders regardless of their public façade.
The increasing attention on pedophilia has caused many Americans to question what this disorder entails, its characteristics, and what type of treatment should be sought for abusers. What is pedophilia? Do people choose to be pedophiles or are they born that way? This post will address these questions.
Pedophilia
The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) defines pedophilia as recurrent sexually arousing fantasies, impulsive desires, or behaviors involving sexual acts with a child and that occur over a period of at least six months. In most cases, the pedophile is at least sixteen years of age and at least five years older than the child. Those who suffer from pedophilia have a compulsion to abuse young children.
Categorizing Pedophiles
Pedophiles can be classified in several ways. Pedophilia can be characterized as either exclusive or non-exclusive. Exclusive pedophiles are attracted only to children. They show no interest in sexual partners who are not prepubescent children. This desire prolongs even when they are not in the presence of children. Non-exclusive pedophiles are attracted to both adults and children. A large percentage of male pedophiles are homosexual or bisexual in orientation to children, meaning they are attracted to male children or both male and female children (Schiffer, 2008).
Many people assume that only males are pedophiles. However, case studies on pedophilia have demonstrated that female pedophilia does exist (Chow, 2002). Although this is a rare phenomenon, females who meet the DSM-IV criteria for pedophiles display similar cognitive distortions to that of males, such as irrational thoughts. Some differences, however, do exist among males and females. Females who exhibit pedophilia tend to suffer from psychiatric disorders or substance abuse problems. Also, there is a higher correlation between sexual abuses as a child with females compared to males.
What Causes Pedophilia?
The etiology of pedophilia can be attributed to both biological and environmental factors. Case studies indicate that cerebral dysfunction may be a contributing or dominant factor of pedophilia (Scott, 1984), including problems with self-control, extreme urges, and cognitive distortions. Many experts also believe that disorders for sexual preferences emerge from childhood experiences during critical periods in human development (DiChristina, 2009). In many cases, child sex abusers suffer from traumatic experiences during their childhood.
More specifically, pedophiles tend to also have been molested as children. As children, they lacked the ability to control the situation. By sexually assaulting children, pedophiles attempt to re-live the trauma they experienced and they learn how to master it. A complete role reversal gives them the upper hand and prevents them from being victimized. Overall, through the impact of cerebral dysfunction and traumatic development, the sexual urges and desires for children can become ingrained within a person’s nervous system.
Role of the Brain
There is significant evidence that indicate structural abnormalities in the brains of pedophiles (Schiffer, 2008). Abnormalities occur when the brain is developing and can be on-set through certain experiences, such as sexual abuse as a child. Abnormalities in the brains of pedophiles may result in compulsion, poor judgment, and repetitive thoughts.
These abnormalities in the brains of pedophiles are caused by early neurodevelopmental perturbations (Schiffer, 2008). The use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRIs) and positron emission tomography scans (PET) has revealed that the abnormalities of pedophiles exhibit appear in the frontal and central regions of the brain. In particular, there is a decreased volume of gray brain matter in the central striatum. As a result, the nucleus accumbens, orbital frontal cortex, and the cerebellum are all affected (Schiffer, 2008).

These areas of the brain play an important role in addictive behavior. The accumbens is the central mediator of reward signaling and expectation. The striatum and orbito frontal cortex control this reward system. As a result, this contributes to the etiology of pedophilia because a reward deficiency complication disturbs the neurotransmission of dopamine involved in compulsive and addictive behaviors.
Due to the frontotemporal dysfunctions, pedophilia shares neural characteristics with psychiatric disorders that fall in the range of the obsessive-compulsive (OC) spectrum. These impulsive disorders include pathological gambling, kleptomania, and even Tourettes syndrome. While some debate this claim (Schiffer et al., 2007), there is substantial evidence for the existence of physiological and genetic overlaps. In particular, studies have shown that alterations in the frontostriatal circuitry are a major abnormality leading to obsessive-compulsive behavior. Pedophiles tend to act inappropriately and exhibit poor judgment because they lack the ability to control their impulses.
These structural alterations underlie the antisocial behaviors exhibited by someone with pedophilia. Pedophiles are burdened with repetitive thoughts and urges. Consequently, they seek to fulfill these desires through behavior that is socially unacceptable and at times, even illegal. Most pedophiles express shame and guilt after partaking in their immoral behavior because their neurological dysfunctions deal strictly with urges and not emotions (Schiffer et al., 2007).
Is There a Cure?
Pedophilia, like many types of disturbances or diseases, does not have a complete cure. The sexual urges associated with pedophilia may never permanently disappear, and a person’s sexual preference and orientation can be difficult to completely re-orient. At present, treatment primarily focuses on preventing further offenses rather than changing sexual orientation.
Yuli Grebchenko, MD, has done extensive research on pedophiles. He noted that pedophilia is a life-long disorder and stated that, “It needs lifelong treatment” (Lamberg, 2005). Recent studies have demonstrated that psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy can be combined to bring about the most effective treatment to someone suffering from pedophilia (Kersebaum, 2007).
Therapy includes discussing traumatic events, especially those from the childhood of an abuser. Therapy also seeks to help patients identify situations that may tempt them to engage in harmful behaviors toward children. During therapeutic treatment, therapists may try to correct a patient’s cognitive disorder, which may include misperceptions that the child enjoyed the abuse.
The three standard pharmacotherapy treatments for pedophilia are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI), luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), and leuprolide acetate (LA) (Briken, 2003). These pharmacotherapy treatments target certain hormones and chemicals in the body, but have varying side effects. SSRIs are effective in less severe cases and patients often experience only sexual side effects (Kraus, 2007). In more serious cases, LA can reduce testosterone to extremely low levels along with pedophilic urges. While LA treatment is somewhat dangerous, it has been found to be very effective (Schober, 2005). The newest treatment drug, LHRH, reduces neural responsiveness to visual sexual stimuli and has very little side effects (Briken, 2003).
Today’s World

Most people are in denial that pedophilia exists in their community or home. Pedophiles, however, will go to great lengths to continue their compulsive behavior. They will volunteer in church youth groups, coach youth athletic teams, and find other ways to associate with potential victims. Many times, they place themselves in positions where they can easily meet children.
The Internet has become a common hunting ground to prey on children. Today more and more kids are using Facebook accounts. While Facebook acts as a social network to help link people together, the ability to create a profile displaying one’s personal information may indirectly be helping pedophiles find their next victim. Pedophiles can then befriend children and manipulate, trap, and lure their victims into a false sense of trust. Some pedophiles may pretend they are someone else, such as a classmate. Others develop friendship with children and then arrange meeting times and places so they can act upon and fulfill their sexual desires (Deirmenjian, 2009).
The Catholic Church frowns upon certain sexual behavior. Yet, priests were recently discovered to have engaged in sexual behavior with children. A great deal of hypocrisy surrounds the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church. Over the course of the past two decades, the Church has struggled with confronting sex crimes committed by Catholic priests and religious orders against children. In many cases, the clergy suffered from pedophilia. These priests sexually abused minors, primarily male altar servers, and exerted power over these boys.
The children who fell victim to the clergy were easily accessible, vulnerable, and unthreatening. These priests who engaged in sexual behavior with youth should be held responsible for their actions. The Church should come forward and acknowledge this type of inappropriate behavior. They should take the proper steps to correct this type behavior and have their pedophilic priests seek treatment for their disorder.
Conclusion
Pedophilia is a complex disorder with many underlying factors. These range from dysfunctions in the development of the brain to particular traumatic experiences, such as sexual abuse or rape as a child. Despite no cure for pedophilia, measures can be taken to help people with this disorder control their urges and behavior. Society needs to be more aware of this disorder and its prevalence in everyday life. So while not all people who engage with children are pedophiles, the prominence of pedophiles across many facets of life is much greater than we think.

While Headmaster of Holy Trinity School in Hampstead and St. Peter's, Eaton Square, there were frequent allegations from boys receiving "extra tuition" from Ron Cayless that they had been sexually assaulted by him. The whispers and suspîcions were muted at first because teachers feared his ruthless behaviour and extraordinary ability to damage careers. It was obvious that paedophile Cayless used his Masonic connections to advantage, and even in this case in Northampton the sentence was suspiciously light........15 months for child rape! Cayless wangled many prestigious positions using his Masonic connections and may have managed this light sentence on the basis of his Masonic publications..........
I have received news that one of his former pupils who received "extra tuition" and who had alleged sexual assault by paedophile Ron Cayless..........committed suicide in India 20 years ago. This was hushed up........
Paedophile Cayless has had a history of forming choirs with young boys and using "music" to cover up his activities. There has been so little publicity given to the sentencing of Cayless in Northampton it is probable that his former victims and Schools (Holy Trinity & St.Peters) do not know that this paedophile has finally received some sort of justice.........
Astonishingly there is no mention in any of the newspaper articles that he was Headmaster of Holy Trinity School, Hampstead, and St. Peters Eaton Square.......no mention that he was Deputy Head of a Chelsea school before.......
The following is a relevant extract from an article by Martin McKenzie-Murray "There is no profile of the paedophile. We may think of the lecherous old man lurking in bushes, but, says Sullivan, “It’s important to reflect that paedophiles don’t look dodgy, or act in strange ways.” There are patterns to paedophiles’ manipulations, consistent techniques by which they “groom” the trust of the child and those around them. “We see many more situations where the abuser is known to the person, and are able to offend through a position of trust,” Sullivan tells me. “So a parent, or step-parent. A mentor or sports coach. Or often through friendship or association with the family. They can obtain the confidence of the child, encourage them to keep secrets, try to isolate them from other people, and they may offer bribes.”

An 84-year-old man has been jailed after he admitted sexually assaulting a young boy. Northampton Crown Court heard that Ronald Cayless indecently assaulted the boy in the 1980s in Northamptonshire. The court heard that Cayless told his victim not to tell anyone and ?keep it as their secret.? Dominic Woolard, prosecuting, said Cayless was arrested after the victim contacted police last year. Cayless pleaded guilty to assaulting a boy aged under 16 year old. Judge Michael Fowler sentenced Cayless, of Arteberry Road, London, to 15 months in prison. He is likely to serve half before being considered for parole.

It is even possible that the occupants of Roskeen Court do not know about the paedophile in their midst or that he has been banned from contact with boys below the age of 18.

Inside the mind of a paedophile

"Nothing can ever prepare you for the depth of human depravity"
Former prison officer Mike Crowther doesn't mince his words when he's speaking about paedophiles.
"You'll find that child sex offenders tend to be the most manipulative, rat-cunning individuals.
"They tend to be on average much better educated and articulate than the average crooks and they certainly test your patience."
Working with sex offenders is often the first job that new warders are given in Corrective Services.
New officers are freshly-trained, enthusiastic, they're an unknown quantity to long-term prisoners and they're not yet hardened or embittered by close contact with some of the most devious criminals in the system.
"It can be very easy to do a job when you've got someone screaming in your face because it's very black and while but when you've got someone slowly trying to manipulate you over a long period that's very good training for a new officer," he says.
Mike Crowther worked for the department for 19 years.
He stumbled into prisons as a career and years after, he says he's still wondering how it happened.
The bad dreams about what some of his former charges were capable of and some of the dreadful stories he'd heard only started when he left the job.
"When you're new and you're shiny and peachy-keen, it's fairly safe to put you in a place like that because you've not long taken your oath and there's less chance of you letting your emotions get the better of you."
His first assignment was to a jail known as the Central Industrial Prison, although industry had long since been sold-off by cost-conscious governments.
It was where some of the most notorious were sent.
"We had a wing there called 5A and it was known colloquially among the officers as 'Paedophile Aisle.'
"It only contained about 12 prisoners, and they were the absolute worst-of-the-worst; mostly child-killers.
"People that just molested children end up in the protection wing."
If Mike Crowther learnt one thing about paedophiles in his nearly two decades with the department (and he learnt a lot more than that) it's just how much paedophiles network.
"Even before computerisation the networking was absolutely incredible.
"You'd get a new prisoner walk in, and the others'd (ask) 'what happened to you?'
"'Oh that bloody red-headed kid and his mate' and he'd name the boy, and they'd go 'ah yeah I told you to watch out for him.' They're not the lone operators that people think they are."
The Cooma jail was where the so-called Sex Offenders Program was based.
"There was no program, it was just a place where you could herd all these bad eggs together and they were less likely to be assaulted or predated on by other prisoners as often happens."
Each day prisoners had the choice of retiring to their cells at 3pm or staying out in the chilly Cooma air until 7pm, after the guards had changed shifts.
It led to an event the guards called 'rush-hour'.
'Rush-hour' happened at 3pm when the prisoners gathered their eating utensils, put their hats on and all the things they need to do for muster.
"When I first heard about this it just didn't gel with me because prisoners hate being locked in, the more time in the yard the better.
"The reason these guys wanted to be locked in their cells early was so they could enjoy the children's television shows in the afternoon."
Mike Crowther says the pattern of thinking that leads to a paedophile re-offending starts with a single thought.
Much like a person contemplating cheating on their partner first entertains the idea of a tryst.
"That's the same as these guys, the first problem they have is entertaining the thought.
"They'll be walking past a school, they'll see a child on TV or in the paper and they'll entertain the thought of getting involved with these kids.
"The next stage is doing something about it.
"The most common way is to ingratiate themselves with the family, a single mum or whatever.
"The third step is breaking down the barriers, the child's natural inhibitions towards someone they don't know well touching them.
"It might be something like, 'Come and look at Bob's new tattoo! Have a feel of that' or 'come here young fella I'll show you a new wrestling move they're using in Afghanistan at the moment, and little boys are quite impressed by this stuff.
"After that they have to put the wedge in between the child and the family, it sometimes can be very subtle... 'you're going on an excursion, here's 10 dollars don't tell your mum about it, enjoy it, buy your mates a drink or something.'
"That makes the kid feel very important, but more importantly they've set up a situation where there's secrets between the child and mum.
"That's one of the most important things you can do to proof your kids against this sort of thing, is make sure that they can tell you anything.
"Don't go off your brain if Uncle Bill gives them five dollars it's more important that you know about it."
Stage four of the offending cycle is where the play becomes sexual, stage five is trying to make sure the victim won't reveal the abuse.
"There's the threats to keep it secret... 'Look you do know that if your mum knew about what happened last night she'd probably go and kill herself, she'd be so ashamed of your behaviour' you know, put the guilt thing on them."
Breaking the offending cycle is one of the prime concerns of the Parole Board.
"If you've got someone on probation, you make sure they don't live near a school or a swimming pool or places," says Mr Crowther.
"It's not that they're going to go into the school and abduct a child, but having the children in their environment is very bad for them, it puts the first stage in front of them."
Mike Crowther says few paedophiles recognise that their proclivities are aberrant.
He says you get types whose conviction that they're not really at fault takes on almost political overtones.
Colin Robert Fisk was one of those.
Fisk was part of a paedophile ring that included now infamous names Larry 'Dolly' Dunn, and Philip Bell.
"He said to me in conversation one day, 'in any civilised country the age of consent would be, I can't remember if he said 12 or 13, he really believes that the day will come when we become 'civilised' enough that these people can be allowed to get at children.
"There's very little you could do for someone like that.
"Others, particularly those who've killed children, well it's just deny, deny, deny.
"They've got no further to go down so they'll concoct a wild story as to 'no, no, I'd never hurt a child.'
"Every once in a while you'll meet one who actually acknowledges that 'yes I've done the wrong thing and I've caused damage' but in my experience that's very rare."
Ronald Whitby Cayless convicted paedophile.
by Ariela Goldstein-Mayer journalist.
The most intriguing element of this conviction of Ronald Whitby Cayless for what is in effect child rape is that no mention is made by the BBC journalists, Press journalists or the Northampton Police that these sickening offences took place while paedophile Cayless was Headmaster of the prestigious St. Peter's CE Junior School in Eaton Square 1980 to 1992. In fact, all that is said is that Ron Cayless was a "music teacher." There is also no mention that paedophile Ron Cayless was Headmaster of Holy Trinity School in Hampstead 1974 to 1980.
It would seem to me that there has been an attempt at "damage limitation" on behalf of Ron Cayless, and an attempt to leave other victims of this ruthless character ignorant of his prosecution and conviction. This is truly bizarre because in all other cases I have studied the Police have gleefully released details of the abuser's previous Headships and employment with children! My conclusion is that paedophile Cayless has been afforded protection by his Masonic connections and I will give details on these later in this article. Similarly no mention is made by the BBC, Press or Police that he organised numerous choirs with very young boys over a period of 60 years. Why isn't the NSPCC involved in tracking down other victims?
The next issue I find intriguing is that his 15 month sentence is hopelessly lenient in comparison with other abusers and child rapists like Chris Denning. The victim gave details of the psychological damage done by these offences and yet 15 months is considered an adequate sentence! Why?
Throughout his period as Headmaster of Holy Trinity and St. Peter's School paedophile Ron Cayless was quite triumphalist about his Masonic connections and influence. I understand this was also the case when he was Deputy Head of a school in Chelsea.
Ron Cayless, I am told, made it clear that he had the power to make and break teaching careers when he was Headmaster of these two schools and as a consequence teachers and ancillary staff were very wary of raising suspicions about the "extra tuition" Cayless afforded to certain pupils. I am told that these pupils were invariably pretty or handsome boys. I have also been informed that one of his "extra tuition" boys committed suicide while in India doing charitable work. The suicide was hushed up and covered by excuses concerning ill-health!
During the time at Holy Trinity School in Hampstead paedophile Cayless preferred and promoted an unbridled sex pest who sexually assaulted young female teachers in the school and even told his class about his own exploits with prostitutes at the age of 13. This sex pest teacher also attempted to seduce a pupil at the neighbouring South Hampstead High School. One particular female teacher was so bullied and intimidated by this sex pest that she suffered a severe mental breakdown and was forced to resign from Holy Trinity School. She received no support from Ron Cayless. This sex pest openly joined the Masons while at Holy Trinity and was preferred by Cayless to another School in Hampstead as Deputy Head. The Head of St.Paul's Elsworthy Road, at this time, was another Masonic associate of Ron Cayless from his teaching employment in Chelsea and seems to have been delighted to appoint this sex pest to his staff. Later this very same sex pest became Head of St.Paul's Elsworthy Road and had a reputation for sadistic behaviour and extreme cruelty. His particular interest was young girls rather than boys. You would not know about this "dark side" if you read the glowing testimonials on the retirement of this sex pest.
It is clear tha paedophile Ron Cayless used "music" as a cover for some vile offences and that powerful connections have done much to mute publicity about his conviction for what is in effect child rape. In all the reports of the conviction at Northampton even the address of Cayless in Wimbledon is mispelled.
The most astonishing issue is that Cayless has been ordered to not come into contact with boys under 18yo but this conviction barely appears on internet search engines and other victims will only discover that Cayless has been judged and convicted by chance. The internet is however awash with notices concerning former choirs and church choirs organised by Cayless. It seems to me that all the alarm bells about this ruthless child abuser have been buried deep.................
Ariela Goldstein-Mayer.
Below is an example of the links enjoyed by paedophile Ron Cayless. We can assume that a fair number are Masons and we can assume that a number used their influence to obtain the unduly lenient sentence for Ron Cayless.
